A mixture of meadow land and wetlands, the River Purwell flows through Purwell Meadows and joins the River Hiz further downstream in Walsworth. If you are lucky, you may spot kingfishers which are native to the area. Nearby facilities for play and recreation, make this a place to visit for all the family.

Greenspace Action Plan
The Countryside Management Service is currently developing a new five year Greenspace Action Plan for Purwell Meadows in Hitchin, on behalf of North Herts Council. Below is the briefing document and further engagement on a draft plan will take place in January 2022. We welcome your comments on the proposed objectives and on the future management of Purwell Meadows.
